Thermoflash LX-26

Here is a thermometer where you do not have to touch your baby to check its temperature. The producer claims that it reads the body temperature instantly and without contact. Thermoflash is particularly efficient for taking the temperature of newborn babies and very young children.

From a distance of around 5 cm, all you have to do is point it towards the forehead to read the temperature shown on the LCD screen.

As there is no contact, you can immediately start again and again and as many times as you wish to take the temperature of other family members without having to disinfect or change the tip.

It can be ordered from the UK via Cocooncenter for 44,50 €.

Neurological reflex hammers

Choosing your reflex hammer is not alway easy. As a medical student I went cheap and bought a Buck hammer. Never again. For my neurological summer practice I invested in a German produced Dejerine style hammer. It was a good choice for a junior doctor. The Dejerine hammer has a heavy head, with a nice steel shaft. It fits nicely in my lab-coat pocket. Not too small and not too big.

The choices of hammers vary. Some of the senior doctors preferred the Troemner hammer. But my all time favorite must be the ergonomic Taylor model. It looked really classy on rounds.
